Region. Enterprises at risk

Small to medium enterprises which provide equipment for the Australian Defence Force face difficult times with Budget cuts and delays to projects. Western Sydney has a significant number of such companies. For example, Sydney Olympic Park and Silverwater region is home to world-leading companies operating in aerospace and defence circles and 40 companies in and around Ryde are involved in the Defence supply chain. Other firms are spread across the region. In another move, Lockheed Martin is cutting production of the US F-35 joint fighter, which is likely to affect local suppliers, such as, Quickstep Holdings, at Bankstown Airport, a supplier of composites for the aircraft.

Parramatta. Ten Eclipse buildings

Parramatta City Council says to accommodate its target of an additional 10,000 new office jobs in the city would require 200,000 of square metre of commercial floorspace, which represents approximately 30 per cent of the current commercial office space. The additional workforce would need to be accommodated in the equivalent of 10 high-rise buildings similar to the Eclipse nearing completion.

Parramatta. Broader framework needed

A report prepared for Parramatta City Council says, Parramatta, as Sydney’s second CBD, needs a broader spatial framework for planning its future. “Greater Parramatta, including Parramatta CBD, and three complementary economic precinct – Westmead health complex, Camellia industrial area and Rydalmere education and industrial precincts – should be the focus of planning for the future,” the report said.

Parramatta. Links to emerging economies
