Parramatta. Stadium's new authority

NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley has unveiled plans for a new authority that will oversee Parramatta Stadium along with venues in other key regions. Called Venues NSW, the authority will boost opportunities to secure sporting and other major events for Parramatta, the Illawarra and the Hunter. Previously, the Parramatta Stadium Trust, within the Office of Communities, manages the stadium for the government.

North Ryde. Founding director appointed

Professor John Boyages, founder of the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute and BreastScreen NSW Sydney West has been appointed founding director of the new Macquarie University Cancer Institute (MCI) and Professor of Breast Oncology at the Australian School of Advanced Medicine (ASAM). At Westmead, Boyages built a team of over 70 staff, managed a $10 million budget and developed facilities to a value of over $20 million. He is passionate about raising the bar in cancer care through research and advanced facilities - both available to his team in the Australian School of Advanced Medicine and Macquarie University Hospital.

Region. Lecturer wins award

University of Western Sydney industrial design lecturer, Christian Tietz, has been recognised as part of the winning team for the 2011 World Habitat Award. Mr Tietz was honoured for his work for the 'Healthabitat' Housing for Health program, which surveys community housing before training local Indigenous people in basic repair skills to help improve and maintain the properties.

Box Hill. Plan on exhibition

The NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure is inviting public comment on the draft Precinct Planning Package for the Box Hill and Box Hill Industrial Precincts. Box Hill is around 764 hectares and is expected to accommodate around 10,000 dwellings in the North West Structure Plan. A town centre will support the precinct which will have a population of about 28,000 people. The plan proposes new planning controls and outlines the provision of new infrastructure for the Box Hill and Box Hill Industrial Precincts in the North West Growth Centre. The plan is on public exhibition until Nov14.

Region. Two make top 10

West Ryde Marketplace (fourth) and Cherrybrook Village (ninth) are included in the Top 10 small shopping centre table. The annual turnover, per square metre, of West Ryde Marketplace was $15,089, and that for Cherrybrook Village, $13,638, according to Shopping Centre News.
