Fairfield. Food inspections in the city

The NSW Food Authority has released the first annual report card on food inspections revealing Fairfield City Council made 1004 inspections, from January 2009 to June 2009, Only 387 inspections were found to be satisfactory, with 377 businesses at “high risk” of food contamination’ and another 199 “medium risk” in the area. Council issued 100 warning letters, one prohibition order and 30 penalty notices were served, with five prosecutions. Council investigated 48 complaints about food businesses, with food hygiene and handling making up half of the complaints. There are 780 retail food outlets throughout the city.
