Granville. Opposition to housing density

Paul Garrard, the Woodville Independents councillor on Parramatta City Council, opposes the indiscriminate increase in housing density without being able to address education, policing, health, transport and general infrastructure such as gas and water. “There must be a down-zoning of the existing South Granville estate through the LEP process presently being put into place. The NSW Government's edict, that the Parramatta LGA must accept an extra 22,000 homes, must not be carried out at the expense of those areas which are already under social and physical stress," he said on his website woodville-independent.blogspot.com

Parramatta. DAs worth $11.2 million approved

Parramatta City Council has approved an application for alterations and additions to an existing vehicle showroom including the construction of a 2-storey showroom at the front of the site and conversion of the existing showroom into a customer car park, at 45 Church Street, Parramatta. Estimated cost of construction: $3.2 million. Council has also approved an application for the construction of a three-storey police station, at 2 Carlton Street, Granville. Estimated cost of construction: $8 million

Eastern Creek. LG Electronics to expand share

Yong Nam, CEO and vice-chairman, of Korean electronics giant, LG Electronics, said the company planned to increase its market share in Australia, when visiting the company’s Australia headquarters, at Eastern Creek. “We’re not pulling out of the consumer market, unlike our rivals,” he said in The Australian. Mobile phones and business-to-business would be the big opportunities for growth in Australia, he said.

Parramatta. Wincrest creditors to meet

Creditors of Parramatta-based Wincrest Homes, which has gone into voluntary liquidation owning an estimated $12 million, will meet at the Crowne Plaza hotel, in Parramatta, at 9.15am, on Tuesday, February 10. Creditors will discuss a proposal to allow current projects to continue. Construction has halted on more than 100 homes

Top Ryde. 30 tonnes of concrete collapses

Engineers have been called in to investigate the collapse of 30 tonnes of concrete at a shopping centre construction site at Top Ryde. The construction union said workers were lucky to escape injury in a formwork collapse at one of Sydney's largest building sites. A safety expert from the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, Rick Rech, said the incident could have been disastrous for the workers

Region. Need for more hospitals

A draft New South Wales Government report has revealed the need for more hospital services, in south-west Sydney, which is slated to absorb an extra 300,000 people over the next quarter of a century. The Sydney South-West Area Health Service’s report said Campbelltown Hospital would act as the region's major metropolitan hub, a mini-hospital, at Leppington, could provide outreach maternity care and mental health services, as well as minor surgical procedures. Another, at Oran Park, could specialise in dental services, child health nursing and palliative care. The area which straddles Campbelltown, Camden and Liverpool councils.

Glenfield. School land to be sold

The NSW Government plans to sell up to 140 hectares of land at Hurlstone Agricultural High School, at Glenfield, and at Seaforth TAFE, to pour about $240 million into the state's coffers. The government wants to use half the money to fund front-line services. The government is overturning its policy that money from the sale of school land be reinvested into the school from which it is sold, according to the ABC.

Bonnyrigg. $750 million housing project

The Becton Property Group has approval of the concept plan for the $750 Bonnyrigg Living Communities project, which will see the transformation of the former public housing estate into a residential, commercial and retail community, under a public-private partnership with the NSW Government. The proposal comprises approximately 802 public housing dwellings, 31 community/Aboriginal dwellings, over 1300 private dwellings, open space, roads and associated infrastructure
