Region. Praise for employment initiative

The Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) has welcomed an initiative aimed at enhancing the skills and employment prospects of Aboriginal students. UWS and the Parramatta-based NSW Aboriginal Land Council have joined forces in the NSWALC Aboriginal Student Internship Program, which aims to boost the chances of indigenous students obtaining successful long-term employment. Four final-year UWS students would be involved in a six-month pilot program which would be evaluated with a view to expanding it in future years.. “A better educated and skilled workforce will not only make a stronger contribution to economic growth but will encourage more knowledge-based industry to locate in the region, thus broadening employment opportunities for all its residents,” said WSROC president, Clr Alison McLaren.
