Marayong.Furniture firm in $150m project

Freedom Furniture, at Kings Park, and the APN Property Group have unveiled plans for The Capitol, a $150 million development, at South Yarra, in Melbourne. The project includes a six-storey office building, a 38-storey apartment tower and retail outlets. The land, which includes a Freedom Furniture outlet, is owned by the founders of the company, Pater Palan and Julian Tertine. APN’s Development Fund No 1 will fund the development.

Eastwood. Council rejects proposal

Council has rejected a proposal by A V Jennings to increase the number of dwellings from 280 to up to 800, on the former Eastwoods Brick quarry site, as contrary to council’s residential development strategy. A V Jennings purchased the 14.7-hectare site for $70 million last September.

Penrith. Local 'boy' heads up NAB

Cameron Clyne, “the boy from Penrith”, as The Australian Financial Review referred to him, has been appointed CEO, of the National Bank of Australia, to replace John Stewart, on New Year’s Day. He’ll earn a base salary of $2.5 million, with incentives that could boost his total pay to $8.75 million, the paper said. Mr Clyne, 40, is the son of Tony Clyne, a former head, of the NSW Department of Business and Consumer Affairs.

Parramatta. WSN wins council tender

Council has accepted the tender from WSN Environmental Solutions to process and dispose of mixed solid waste, at the facility to be constructed at Lucas Heights. The rate is $148.70 per tonne (including GST) plus CPI indexation and Section 88 levies on residual material to be disposed of at landfill. The contract is for an initial term of 10 years commencing in December 2011. Until then, council has accepted the tender to either dispose of mixed solid waste at landfill or process mixed solid waste, at the Jacks Gully AWT facility, until Lucas Heights is operational. The rate for disposal at landfill will be $123.00 per tonne.

Region. Premier addresses 450 people

Diplomats from the People’s Republic of China, Republic of Indonesia, The Philippines and Vietnam, together with representatives from the Japan External Trade Organisation and the Malaysia External Trade Organisation, were among the 450 guests, at the 2008 State of the Region Address for Western Sydney, by Premier Morris Iemma, at the Waterview Convention Centre, in Bicentennial Park. The Parramatta-based Western Sydney Business Connection hosted the event.

Region. Starbucks closes stores in region

Starbucks Australia has closed 61 stores across the nation, including outlets at Carlingford Court, Blacktown, Liverpool, Macarthur Square, Macquarie Centre, Parramatta and Penrith. Stores remaining open in the region are Mt Druitt and Westmead.
