Around town and elsewhere

It's no laughing matter for Larry
Larry Sanders, of The Laugh Garage Comedy Club, on the first floor of a building on the corner of Church and Phillip streets in the Parramatta CBD, is closing down as the lease has run out - and moving to an undisclosed venue somewhere else in the CBD - finds the premises has been leased to a competitive organisation, the Mick Roche-owned The Comedy Store. Mr Sanders said he believed he had accepted an offer from the landlord. Mr Roche said he heard Mr Sanders did not take up the option. While Mr Sanders is not laughing, Parramatta will benefit; it will have two comedy clubs.
Kerry puts his money where his mouth is
Kerry Stokes, executive chairman of Seven Network Limited, has called for a more skilled nation. As the owner of WesTrac Australia, he is putting his own money into training 500 apprentices in NSW and Western Australia. The NSW/ACT head office is at Wetherill Park.
